We are freezing and need a shower!!

I knew that being in a house without heat would not be fun with two little kids, but no water at the same time is really frustrating. On Wednesday of last week our furnace, which is original to the house that was built in 54', started making all sorts of noises when it would try to light. We are use to strange noises having a older house but we started worrying when it wasn't starting and we could smell gas. So we turned it off and hoped our space heaters would keep us warm. Luckily one of our good friends is a HVAC specialist, when we called him about coming to look at the furnace, he had several other friends and family that needed him to look at there furnaces before ours. Luckily, he loves us so he came to our house first. He was able to find the problem and ordered the part to fix it, he would be able to install it the next day. That is great, except that it has been in the single digits and the house gets cold quickly, oh well, we cranked up the spce heaters.
Later that afternoon Paul went to wash his hands and the water didn't come on, great! We thought our pipes had frozen, a half hour later our neighbors called letting us know that a water main had broken and it would take hour or even days to repair. What do you we with two kids and us with no water, go to my partents house. We packed the kids up the kids and went to my did's house in Layton. Paul had to stayed at our house, we work in the middle of night and our dogs are not invited to my parents house, I can't blame them. Paul found all different was to melt water for the dogs to drink and flush the toilet. Finally, Saturday afternoon we heard that the pipe was fixed it we were just waiting for the water to be chlorinated and the dirty water from the pipes to be flushed.
I have to say it was frustrating to not have water for a few days, it sure make my grateful for all the amenities that we have. Also for my dad and Claire to let us hangout at there house. Now we are home in a warm house and we are able to flush the toilet, yeah!!
